Design : Six Steps to a Successful Exhibition

For this example, the client is a distributor of superior spirits, showing at the International Wine and Spirit Fair at the Docklands Excel venue. Their main objectives were to promote the modern bar image of their products, and to encourage delegates to try a free sample with an overall emphasis on their premium brand of Absinthe.

Turnaround from initial brief to opening of show was less than 6 working days.

Design and costing

The four main factors when considering the design of an exhibition stand are:

  1. The overall objectives for the exhibition
  2. How the stand will help to achieve these objectives
  3. The appearance and branding for the stand and support material
  4. Time and budget constraints

Taking the above into account, the first step is to give the client an idea of what can be achieved within the exhibition space, time frame and budget. The client wanted to distribute as many free samples as possible and opted for a light airy boutique bar set up with counter top, ice bucket, supported by pos material. From this we were able to sketch initial visuals for the client.

Initial 3D computer graphics

Once the overall design concept had been finalised, the next step is to start building a scale 3D computer model. This model is then manipulated to help the client visualise the proportions and layout and allows both client and Syrox to discuss any new detailed requirements. Once this has been achieved we then use the model as a basis to calculate a final overall cost.

Graphic design

After the proportions and detailing have been decided, the next step is to work on graphics concepts. By using the 3D computer model we can quickly render a number of graphic designs that can be emailed to the client. At this stage, we also select from a number of different printing techniques and finishes to achieve the look and feel required by the client.

Final computer visualisation

The final computer visualisation is then produced and from this, working drawings are created for both the stand builders and graphic designers. From these drawings each element is then constructed and prepared and any lighting or special requirements outsourced. Once ready these finished elements will be packed into storage until required.

Onsite build

It is essential that the onsite build goes as smoothly as possible. The stand is transported to the venue in pre-prepared and finished sections. By working from comprehensive drawings and with an experienced team we can assure clients that the build will be carried out with the minimum of fuss and time.

From the initial discussion to the opening of the exhibition was less than 6 working days. The stand was a great success and attracted a high level of interest and visitors.
